The FW-7344 multiaxis distributed motion controller, part of National Instruments' FlexMotion line, uses the FireWire network bus. FireWire transfers data at 400 Mb/s, faster than the RS-485 serial bus, which transfers at 10 Mb/s, or the universal serial bus, at a rate of 12 Mb/s. The device can be installed anywhere within 4.5 m of its host PC or another FW-7344 module, and as many as 32 controllers can be connected in a daisy-chain configuration.
