PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct. 31, 2017 — Sapphire Optical DomesCustom engineered sapphire optical domes from Meller Optics Inc. are ideal for subsea drone applications to extend the viewing angle of vision systems and resist algae growth.

The devices are ideal for deep-water, unmanned aerial vehicles and other subsea applications to extend the viewing angle of cameras by up to 160° and can withstand pressures to 10,000 psi, depending upon configuration. Featuring Mohs 9 hardness, the optically clear domes resist fast moving sand, salt water and most chemicals while providing a smooth surface which helps prevent algae growth.

Exhibiting up to 85 percent transmission uncoated in the UV to IR range, with up to 99 percent when AR coated on two sides, the domes can be made in sizes up to 10 in. with varying wall thicknesses and precise edge steps and mounting profiles, where required.
