Tyco Electronics Corp. has released the AMP OC-3/Fast Ethernet multimode MT-RJ transceivers. The 156-Mb/s module is intended for use in SONET OC-3 multimode fiber physical layers that provide ATM and other data communications services, and the 125-Mb/s version is for use in FDDI, ATM and Fast Ethernet multimode fiber physical layer applications. They send and receive pre-encoded data over a pair of 62.5- or 50-µm-core multimode optical fibers. The modules employ 1300-nm optics and operate from a single 3.3-V power supply. They have a DC-coupled data interface that provides flexibility for use in a variety of circuit architectures.
