Cognex Corp. has released the second version of its PC-based vision system. The Checkpoint II is designed for multicamera guidance, gauging and defect inspection applications. A 400-MHz processor allows the system to inspect faster than previous models -- up to 11,000 parts per minute. The system also supports a wide range of cameras at higher resolutions than before. It still uses point-and-click software that allows customizing, and features an extensive library of MMX-optimized vision software tools, including tools that locate and inspect parts with up to 1/40-pixel accuracy. The system costs less than $15,000 and comes with a high-speed embedded vision engine, the software library and online documentation.
