Lumex Inc. has announced the SMF-HM1530 series of surface-mount-technology (SMT) sockets for LEDs with radial leads. They allow the use of LEDs with leads in printed circuit boards designed for SMT devices and can be mounted on boards that have no provisions for through-hole components. The sockets also can mount LEDs with radial leads in a vertical or horizontal orientation. The diode's leads are trimmed to the correct length and are inserted after the sockets are fixed onto the printed circuit boards. The company offers lead trimming services for mounting a large number of LEDs using these sockets.
