Philips Semiconductors has designed a family of analog front-end devices to enhance the quality of images provided by digital still cameras and camcorders. The TDA996X is for 12-bit-resolution imaging applications, and the TDA995X is for 10-bit resolution. The company says the devices provide superior-quality images by eliminating noise and distortion while processing signals from the sensor into digital form. Suitable for cameras from professional to consumer, they range in price (in quantities of 1000) from $18 for the professional quality to $10 and $12 for the midrange versions to $7 and $9 for entry-level versions.
