Optical Research Associates has released the latest version of its optical design software package for the design and analysis of telecommunications and other laser-based systems. The Code V 8.50 performs fiber coupling efficiency calculations in which the fiber input can be defined by user-specified or program-generated intensity and phase distribution. User-defined tolerance has been improved, allowing the incorporation and tolerancing of specialized devices. This can be performed using finite difference or Monte Carlo algorithms. Other features include the ability to model variations in coating thickness and stress-induced birefringence.
