The X-Y axes use crossed-roller slides, high-precision lead screws and zero-backlash, closed-loop DC servomotors with built-in encoders for positional feedback and smooth, accurate motion; the Z-axis is moved by a piezo element in the top plate. Linear encoded units achieve resolution down to 20 nm and repeatability accuracies of <300 nm rms.
