Princeton Instruments has introduced the SOPHIA series of ultralow-noise cameras for low-light-level scientific applications. The cameras feature proprietary ArcTec thermoelectric cooling technology, which minimizes dark noise by cooling the CCD to less than −90 °C using only air assist. Applications include astronomy, in vivo small-animal imaging, chemiluminescence, soft x-ray imaging and spectroscopy.
