Illumination and optical products developer StockerYale Inc., based in Salem, N.H., announced it has appointed Patrick J. Zilvitis to its board of directors. Zilvitis is chief information officer on a consulting basis at Segway LLC, in Manchester, N.H. He was previously chief information officer and corporate vice president for The Gillette Co.; he has also been manager of IBM's personal computer channel and vice president of marketing for Perkin-Elmer.. . .David S. King has joined the board of directors at Altair Nanotechnologies Inc., a Wyoming-based manufacturer of nanomaterials and products. King is managing partner for and founder of Advanced Technology Group LLC, a Washington, D.C.-based company that works with research and development enterprises to review emerging technologies. The company also focuses on securing external funding to support technology advancements and accelerate the commercialization of innovative technologies, including nanostructured materials for photonics, opto-electronics, biochemical sensor applications, molecular and organic electronics and biotechnology. He was previously science advisor with the Office of the Under Secretary of Commerce for Technology, US Department of Commerce and held posititions with the National Institute of Standards and Technology. King fills a board seat recently vacated by Robert Sheldon.

The goal of this technology is to manipulate atomic and molecular particles to create devices that are thousands of times smaller and faster than those of the current microtechnologies.
