A data sheet from Fiberguide Industries Inc. describes the company’s Anhydroguide PCS silica fiber, which has a numerical aperture of 0.37 and plastic cladding that allows a high core-to-clad ratio. It notes that the pure fused silica used in the core of the fiber is made by reacting silicon tetrachloride with oxygen using a plasma arc rather than an oxyhydrogen flame, ensuring that the residual hydroxyl concentration will be low in the core material for IR transmission. The sheet lists fiber features, specifications and applications, and it provides a diagram of a fiber cross section and a graph of typical spectral attenuation.
