Simphotek Awarded $750K
Simphotek Inc. of Newark, N.J., has received a two-year, $750,000 STTR Phase II contract from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research to develop innovative optical computer-aided design software. The award will be used to help create the company’s first software product to reduce the time and cost for simulating the interactions of light with linear and nonlinear optical materials.
- optical materials
- Materials that, by virtue of their optical characteristics (i.e. refractive index, dispersion, etc.), are used in optical elements. See crystal; glass; plastic lens.
- The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
