The devices use planar diffraction gratings on a highly transmissive antireflection-coated substrate -- typically Pyrex -- in combination with a prism. The prism in front of the grating ensures that the first-order diffracted light is aligned in the optical axis of the microspectrograph. The company says the device features high second-order suppression and low wavelength drift.
