The RLE10 fiber optic laser encoder from Renishaw Inc. is an interferometer-based system that provides multiaxis capability from a single remote laser source. This laser encoder uses fiber optic links to deliver the laser beam directly to each axis-measuring position, which reduces optical path complexity and thermal drift and eliminates the need for beam benders, resulting in a minimal footprint. The system includes a compact low-power detector head that houses the interferometer, reference path optics, fringe detection and beam steerer.
