TECH SPEC Lateral Displacement Beamsplitters Edmund Industrial Optics' new line of TECH SPEC lateral displacement beamsplitters is exclusively designed, manufactured and coated by Edmund Optics. These unique beamsplitters output two parallel beams, separated by either 5 or 10 mm, depending on the size chosen. These beamsplitters are ideal for simplifying benchtop layout, and can be easily integrated into larger optomechanical assemblies.

The lateral displacement beamsplitters consist of a precision BK 7 rhomboid prism cemented to a λ/8 BK 7 right-angle prism. The high-tolerance design ensures that the exiting beams are parallel to within 30 arc sec.

The beamsplitters are offered in two versions: polarizing (with p-polarization transmission of >95%, s-polarization reflection of >99% and an extinction ratio of >1000:1) and nonpolarizing (with polarization of <6%). Both the entry and exit faces are coated with a multilayer antireflection coating measuring <0.3% backreflection (at 632.8 nm) for the polarizing version and <0.5% backreflection (between 430 and 670 nm) for the nonpolarizing version. All of the beamsplitters feature a 40-20 scratch-dig surface quality and an angular tolerance of ±5 arc sec.
