CONFOCAL MICROSCOPY The CGS OptoLine confocal system is designed for use with state-of-the-art fluorescence or reflected-light microscopes. Projection grid confocal technology enables it to deliver full-function optical sectioning capabilities without the need for lasers, pinholes or software interpretations, resulting in a lower-cost system. Its manufacturer, klughammer gmbh, says that it achieves this with speed and efficiency while maintaining the optical integrity and image quality of the host microscope.

GLOSSARY
fluorescence
The emission of light or other electromagnetic radiation of longer wavelengths by a substance as a result of the absorption of some other radiation of shorter wavelengths, provided the emission continues only as long as the stimulus producing it is maintained. In other words, fluorescence is the luminescence that persists for less than about 10-8 s after excitation.
