NOTCH FILTER Semrock Inc. has launched StopLine, a 405-nm optical thin-film notch filter for flow cytometry, confocal microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. It blocks the laser line with an optical density of >6 and a notch width of <9 nm FWHM and provides greater than 90% transmission outside the notch. It rejects light by reflecting it, simplifying stray-light management. The filters are made with hard-coating technology and without any adhesives in the optical path. The combination of highly stable ion-beam sputtering technology with proprietary deposition control and software results in good optical performance.

That branch of spectroscopy concerned with Raman spectra and used to provide a means of studying pure rotational, pure vibrational and rotation-vibration energy changes in the ground level of molecules. Raman spectroscopy is dependent on the collision of incident light quanta with the molecule, inducing the molecule to undergo the change.
