Based on proprietary technology, chiral long period gratings from Chiral Photonics can optically sense environmental factors such as chemical composition, temperature and pressure. They are sensitive to circularly polarized light that has the same handedness as the chiral fiber. Light that is oppositely polarized can be used for control purposes or can serve as a second sensing channel. The gratings are structurally formed into fiber and stable at high temperatures. They can be made from refractory or radiation-resistive glasses and employed to probe environments containing corrosive chemicals or exhibiting high temperature.
