The Nano-Z500 Z-axis nanopositioner from Mad City Labs Inc. is designed for high-speed fluorescence and confocal microscopy applications that require long-range Z-axis travel. It can hold the multiwell plates used in biomedical research. The piezoactuator-driven device has flexure-guided motion, and its internal sensors deliver a closed-loop positioning resolution of better than 3 nm over its 500-µm travel range. Its 15-ms step response enables Z-sections to be captured with minimal photobleaching. Connected to the Nano-Drive controller, the positioner can receive analog and digital commands. An optional USB interface is available with 16- or 20-bit resolution.
