A piezoelectrical system for gripping and moving tiny components in micro- and nanotechnology applications has been developed by piezosystem jena. Its miniaturized piezoactuator achieves subnanometer resolution and provides a precise aperture angle in the direction of motion. Employing the elastic resilience of a spring, the user can close the actuator and adjust the gripper force. The system’s solid-state flexure hinge design provides a 300-µm range of motion. It operates from a 0- to 150-V analog voltage signal.
