OZ Optics Ltd. has introduced a line of compact, PC-board-mountable, motor-driven variable attenuators with low backreflection. The devices feature a stepper motor mechanical coupling and consist of two baseplates with a resilient O-ring between them. Each baseplate contains a lens to collimate and then collect the light. Options include a stepper motor controller card and software, allowing the attenuator to be run from a remote location using a PC with a serial port. Source-to-fiber versions also are available.
