VeLo15 is an antireflection coating produced by Lambda Research Optics Inc. and available in all standard focal length and edge thickness configurations of 1.5- and 2.0-in.-diameter ZnSe focusing lenses. Benefits include reduced setup time because of the minimized thermal lensing effect, enhanced cutting performance and transmission of the red 650- to 670-nm laser line for easy alignment. Typical total absorption is <0.15%, and scratch-dig surface quality is 40-20 on both sides. The company also offers VeLo15 coating service on customer-supplied lenses, with quick delivery turnaround and performance of absorption tests before and after coating.

GLOSSARY
antireflection coating
A thin layer of material applied to a lens surface to reduce the amount of reflected energy. Ideally the index of refraction of that material should be equal to the square root of the product of the indices of the material on either side of the coating, while the ideal thickness for a single-layer coating is one-quarter of the wavelength at which reflectance is to be minimized. See also multilayer coating.
thermal lensing
Distortion of an optical component as a result of heat, which can influence the divergence and the mode quality of a beam passing through the component.
