REHOVOT, Israel, Feb. 11, 2008 -- A new addition to Holo/Or's MultiSpot line, a pattern generator for 1064-nm lasers, generates a two-dimensional array with eight spots arranged as in a 3x3 array without a spot in the center. This configuration is designed for applications above a one-dimensional 1 x 8 array, including splitting a very intense beam into several channels.

The 2-D design enables the separation angle to be fairly large and the overall diameter of the optics to be small. Optics can be ms3by3.jpgmanufactured for wavelengths such as 266, 532, 632.8, 1064, 1550, 2940 and 10600 nm and at custom separation angles.

A conceptual image of the far-field pattern of the eight-point generator is displayed in the figure. The theoretical diffraction efficiency for the five points is close to 72 percent, and transmission efficiency is nearly 100 percent. The standard element has a separation angle of 0.57 degress at 1064 nm.

The beams can be transformed to spots by a single focusing lens. The optics are 11-mm in diameter and 3-mm thick.

The 1064-nm model is made of pure fused silica. An optional high-power laser Ar/Ar coating is available.
