For Industrial Product Marking
YPISLANTI, Mich., April 16, 2008 -- Trotec Laser Inc., an Austria-based maker of laser cutting, marking and engraving products, said its SpeedMarker galvanometer-based fiber laser is fast, precise and durable and that it provides high-quality marking for medical devices, implants and other industrial products on even the smallest, most sensitive materials

"Laser marking is ideal for medical products because it is heat- and chemical-resistant, keeping surfaces smooth and unchanged to ensure sterility,” said Mike Rauch, vice president of sales and marketing for Trotec Laser.

Trotec said teh SpeedMarker features a better beam quality with at up to 1000 characters/sec, is maintenance-free, and supports marking “on-the-fly” for moving parts for seamless integration into existing assembly lines. It can

GLOSSARY
fiber laser
A laser in which the lasing medium is an optical fiber doped with low levels of rare-earth halides to make it capable of amplifying light. Output is tunable over a broad range and can be broadband. Laser diodes can be used for pumping because of the fiber laser's low threshold power, eliminating the need for cooling.
galvanometer
An instrument for detecting or measuring small electric currents.
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
