ROCKLAND, Mass., Dec. 18, 2008 – Prior-Scientific.jpgPrior Scientific Inc. has unveiled its PL-200 high-speed automated slide loading system for high throughput microscopy applications.

Compatible with a range of microscopes, the slide loader uses a space-saving rotating arm design combined with a multiple sensory based gripper system to interface with the company’s ProScan II series of motorized stages for a reliable high speed slide transfer routine.

A rigid, common baseplate for both the slide loader and the microscope provides system stability and offers minimized vibration and a solid connection between the slide loader and the microscope. It also features a slide capacity of 200 in four removable slide racks that house 50 slides each.

The sensors on the system monitor the presence of the slide racks so the system can respond intelligently when racks are removed and replaced. An advanced slide detection system is utilized upon detection of a newly installed slide rack to identify the quantity of slides in the rack and respective locations within the rack.

An optional bar-code reader can be calibrated to read one- or two-dimensional bar codes to ensure data generated is correctly associated with the correct slide reference details. It is supplied with a software development kit that simplifies third-party software package integration.
