Radiantis has introduced Opium, a synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator that, when used with a Ti:sapphire oscillator, provides continuous tuning from 340 to 2500 nm. It produces near-transform-limited pulses of 100-fs duration at 580 nm, with an average power of ~200 mW when pumped with a 140-fs 2-W Ti:sapphire oscillator. Four separate outputs allow simultaneous emission of UV, visible and IR beams. The company says that the ability to use the system at room temperature reduces crystal damage and maintenance costs. A stabilized cavity, wavelength tracking and spectrum control are provided. The device is suitable for biology and chemistry applications.
