Carl Zeiss MicroImaging Inc.’s Axio Scope.A1 offers polarization microscopy. With minimal effort, six versions of the microscope can be specifically configured for polarization techniques. Designed for use in universities and colleges and in research institutes in the fields of geosciences and mineralogy, it also is suitable for materialography applications, conoscopy for crystal diagnosis and as a training microscope for educational use. An interface between the upper and lower parts of the stand enables use of spacers for adapting slides to the sample size. The instrument also features differential interference contrast and circular polarization, and it permits rapid switching from orthoscopy to conoscopy. It can be used with traditional cameras or with the company’s AxioCam line and AxioVision image processing software.
