LANNION, France, April 14, 2010 — Yenista Optics SA has released the Tunics T100S, a benchtop tunable laser for 24/7 applications that combines high output power with low source spontaneous emission (SSE).
The company extended its T100 external cavity laser technology to address the demanding applications of reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer testing. The new laser operates in both stepping and sweeping modes and is available in two versions: O-band and C+L-band. The latter has a low SSE level of 90 dB with 8-dBm output power and mode-hop-free operation from 110 to 150 nm, with 1-pm wavelength setting resolution.
The general-purpose laser combines high output power with amplified spontaneous emission suppression. Applications include amplifier and wavelength division multiplexing testing, and high-resolution insertion loss characterization.
Scanning time between two wavelengths is ~1 s, and sweeping speed is up to 100 nm/s. A proprietary active control ensures mode-hop-free operation and accurate wavelength sweep over the entire tuning range. The fine scanning mode allows the user to accurately modify the wavelength over a ±2-GHz range, using the rotary knob on the instrument’s front panel. External modulation also can be applied to modulate the fine scanning.
The device combines two operating modes. The sweeping ability delivers a continuous variation of the wavelength at a constant rate to enable fast and uninterrupted measurement, and in step-by-step mode, the laser exhibits high wavelength stability that is suitable for long-term testing.
Typical tuning repeatability is 5 pm, typical relative intensity noise is -145 dB/Hz, power flatness during scan is ±0.25 dB, power repeatability from scan to scan is ±0.05 dB, output isolation is 35 dB, and return loss is 60 dB. Low frequency modulation is from 10 kHz to 8 MHz, and high frequency modulation is from 30 kHz to 1 GHz. Operating temperature ranges from 15 to 30 °C.
The laser measures 448 × 133 × 370 mm and weighs 12.5 kg.
