AMERSFOORT, The Netherlands, June 2, 2010 — The latest instrument to be added to the Yokogawa Europe BV family of multifield testers is the AQ1200 OTDR (optical time-domain reflectometer). Designed to aid the installation, commissioning and maintenance of fiber optic infrastructure including FTTx, the new instrument offers a comprehensive range of optical measurement capabilities in a compact handheld package measuring 216 × 157 × 74 mm and weighing 1 kg. In addition to OTDR analysis functions, test features include a fault locator for automatically detecting faulty events, and an optional visual fault locator using a visible light source. A further option allows optical loss testing in conjunction with a built-in stabilized light source and optical power meter with a range of 10 to -70 dBm or 27 to -50 dBm. The tester incorporates an easy-to-read 5.7-in. color LCD and offers built-in multiple language support. It operates at wavelengths of 1310 and 1550 nm over distances ranging from 500 m to 200 km and with pulse widths ranging from 3 ns to 10 µs. Other features include a simple connection test option using the Ethernet PING (Packet Internet Groper) test, support for an external video fiber inspection probe and multicore fiber test capability.
