A method for the production of meshes or grids with a higher aspect ratio has been developed by Stork Veco BV. Its grid results in higher yields in time-of-flight/mass spectrometry processes. A photoresist combined with an updated electroforming process has allowed prototypes with an aspect ratio of 3:1, producing 20-μm bars in a 60-μm-thick mesh. The grid is created from pure nickel that can withstand vibration and that avoids unwanted material stress, resulting in a more rigid product with an optional higher open area.
