Handheld Spectroradiometer

Photonics Spectra
Dec 2010
ASD Inc.Request Info

ASD Inc.’s FieldSpec HandHeld 2 portable spectroradiometer is suitable for researching crops and soil; forestry, ecology and plant physiology; and oceanography and inland water bodies. The compact remote sensing device uses near-IR spectroscopy to make noncontact, nondestructive, laboratory-grade materials measurements. Self-contained data collection with significant spectrum storage capacity and an onboard color display facilitate more efficient field work by eliminating the need for continuous computer connection. Using proprietary technology, the spectroradiometer produces reflectance, radiance and irradiance spectra with a high signal-to-noise ratio in <1 s via a high-sensitivity detector array with a low stray-light grating, a built-in shutter and second-order filtering.

GLOSSARY
remote sensing
Technique that utilizes electromagnetic energy to detect and quantify information about an object that is not in contact with the sensing apparatus.
shutter
A mechanical or electronic device used to control the amount of time that a light-sensitive material is exposed to radiation.
spectroradiometer
An instrument for measuring the radiant energy from a source at each wavelength throughout the spectrum. The spectral regions are separated either by calibrated filters or by a calibrated monochromator. The detector is an energy receiver such as a thermocouple or photomultiplier.
