Wenzel ScanTec GmbH has implemented the Blu-Scan blue laser scanning
sensor into Mobile Scan3D, an industrial 3-D mobile computer numeric control (CNC)
laser scanning machine for portable scanning applications. The laser scanner is
used in reverse engineering and parts inspection verification. Because the system
offers full CNC automatic scanning, the accuracy of the acquired data set is enhanced
over the same data acquired using a portable arm, and it produces automatically
structured and ordered data, minimizing subsequent data cleanup and processing time.
The company says that the new Blu-Scan sensor projects a finer line (50-μm
laser thickness) than the previous generation of red laser sensors and that it has
higher resolution and is more tolerant to surface textures. It can be used for numerous
applications, and an optional rotary table can be used to rotate the part and perform
a complete scan pass, providing all the scans in the same coordinate system.
