For industrial, scientific, research, military and broadcast applications, Vision Research has launched the Phantom v641, a next-generation 4-megapixel high-speed digital camera. Smaller and lighter than its predecessor, the v640, the camera uses technology that won an Emmy award from the National Academy for Arts and Sciences in the technical/engineering achievement category for its high-definition, ultraslow-motion capabilities. Its features include dual power inputs for battery backup or hot-swapping batteries, two auxiliary power ports that can provide 12-VDC/1.5-A power for accessories (each has an available trigger signal input), and dual cooling fans that ensure temperature stability and high-quality images over a wide range of environmental conditions. The viewfinder port has been moved forward on the camera to make cabling cleaner and less intrusive. Timing resolution of <20 ns renders the camera suitable for use in particle image velocimetry applications.
