FARUM, Denmark, March 10, 2011 — Ibsen Photonics has launched the Rock VIS-NIR and XNIR (extended NIR) line of modular, industrial-grade, robust OEM spectrometers for the 550- to 1050-nm and 1175- to 2185-nm wavelength ranges, respectively.

The spectrometers typically enable four times higher optical throughput than traditional devices because of an f number of f/2.2 and the use of proprietary fused-silica transmission gratings manufactured using the company’s high-volume manufacturing process.

The athermal Rock VIS-NIR can be supplied with almost any detector type, enabling customers to choose a spectrometer configuration that best meets their needs. The XNIR uses an InGaAs detector to provide high sensitivity and a good signal-to-noise ratio.

The VIS-NIR series comprises the RST-200 for a large dynamic/absorbance range and the RST-300 for high sensitivity. Both have a numerical aperture of 0.22, minimum optical resolution of 3 nm FWHM, grating efficiency of >50% and stray light of <0.03%. The former uses a Hamamatsu S8381-512 detector and the latter, a Sony ILX511 2048.

Minimum integration time for the RST-200 is 8 ms, maximum readout speed is 25 Hz, dynamic range is 12,000:1 and signal-to-noise ratio is 6000:1.

The RST-300 offers minimum integration time of 1.3 ms, maximum readout speed of 15 Hz, a dynamic range of 800:1 and a signal-to-noise ratio of 300:1.

Both models have a USB 2.0 and an RS-232 interface, deliver temperature drift of <0.01 nm/°C, measure 10 × 105 × 45 mm and operate from -10 to 45 °C

The XNIR model, the RSX-465, has a numerical aperture of 0.22, minimum optical resolution of 6 nm FWHM, grating efficiency of >50%, stray light of <0.03%, a signal-to-noise ratio of 4000:1 and a dynamic range of 9000:1. It uses a Hamamatsu G9208-256 detector and includes USB 2.0 and RS-232 interfaces. Operating temperature ranges from -10 to 45 °C, and temperature drift is <0.02 nm/°C. It shares the same measurements as the other two models.
