PUCHHEIM, Germany, March 31, 2011 — For high performance over a large 2-D processing area, Scanlab AG has introduced the digital-encoder-based intelliSCANde® 30 scan system. It is a completely digital scan head featuring a digital encoder for position feedback, iDRIVE-based digital servo control electronics and a 20-bit, SL2-100 control interface. Using algorithms for controlling the dynAxis galvanometer scanners, the digital servos produce improved dynamics and marking quality. The electronics enhance the range of diagnosis possibilities and communication between the scan system and the user’s control computer. Suitable for large-area processing, the scan head is designed for applications requiring high precision and a small spot size over a large working field. For CO2 applications requiring high dynamical performance, it is available with lightweight beryllium mirrors, and it can be combined with the digital encoder-based varioSCANde 40i to form an ultraprecise and fast three-axis system for processing large areas and 3-D structures. The intelliSCANde is available in 14-, 20- and 25-mm apertures, and is mechanically and electrically compatible with the company’s existing large scan head series, making it suitable for all high-precision materials processing applications. The company can equip its digital servo firmware with multiple control algorithms and parameter sets. Switching between different algorithms or sets, even during processing, allows scan head dynamics to be reconfigured and adapted to particular task requirements. The intelliSCAN enables real-time monitoring of key operational states of the scan system, including mirror positions and speeds, drive currents, supply voltage and temperature.
