Laser Components USA Inc. has addressed the problem of laser markings appearing out of focus and too large when magnification optics are used. The company’s FlexPoint laser modules are designed for applications in which a microscope is used as the optical source of magnification. The modules display a “clean” spot even at multiple levels of magnification. High-quality optical elements are used and adjusted manually to obtain the optimal alignment position, allowing, for example, a beam diameter of 0.02 mm to be achieved at a distance of 100 mm (1/e2). Despite the complexity of the optics, the external dimensions are compact, measuring 95 mm long and 12 mm in diameter. The wavelength and the output power can be adjusted to customer needs.

An instrument consisting essentially of a tube 160 mm long, with an objective lens at the distant end and an eyepiece at the near end. The objective forms a real aerial image of the object in the focal plane of the eyepiece where it is observed by the eye.
