Thermoteknix Systems Ltd. has introduced a 640 x 480-pixel-resolution thermal imaging camera core with 17-μm pitch. The MicroCam draws <1 W of power and weighs 44 g, rendering it suitable for low-weight, low-power-consumption applications, such as for unmanned aerial vehicles. Two models of the new high-resolution core are available – one that has a shutter (requiring nonuniformity correction) and another that uses proprietary and patented XTi shutterless technology. The camera contains no moving parts, operates in complete silence and requires no nonuniformity correction, so there is no interruption to viewing. MicroCam is the company’s line of ultralow-power miniature thermal camera cores, which are incorporated in products such as clip-on thermal imagers and handheld binocular devices.
