Planacon Model XP85112 MCP-PMT Detector

LANCASTER, Pa., May 16, 2012 — Photonis USA has announced the model XP85112, an addition to its Planacon MCP (microchannel plate)-PMT (photomultiplier tube) family, an 8 × 8-anode array equipped with a 10-μm-pore microchannel plate. The 53-mm active area square optical detector provides faster timing and better magnetic field immunity than did previous models. It is suitable for Cherenkov detectors and general high-energy physics applications, as well as for light detection and ranging/laser detection and ranging, and specialized medical imaging.

It operates in magnetic fields up to 2 T, making it suited for applications where strong magnetic fields can interfere with light detection. The smaller pore size of the microchannel plate provides a typical transit spread time of 35 ps for single-photon counting, and pulse rise times of <600 ps. Its square shape allows multiple detectors to be tiled together to form larger detection areas.

Other Planacon models are offered with 25-μm-pore microchannel plates; they are available in an 8 × 8-anode array (Model XP85012) or a 32 × 32-anode array (Model XP85022). All can be customized with application-specific readout configurations.
