TORRINGTON, Conn., April 1, 2013 — Dymax Corp.’s MD 1193-M-SV05, a multipurpose medical-device adhesive, cures tack free upon exposure to UV and/or visible light, eliminating the need for heat or secondary moisture cure on high-speed assembly lines.

It dispenses rapidly and bonds transparent or translucent polycarbonate, PVC, ABS, polyurethane, polystyrene and stainless steel used in the manufacture of syringes and needles. Its narrow viscosity range is suitable for high-speed, automated needle-assembly machines where batch-to-batch consistency is crucial. The adhesive is available in 15-l pail format to minimize equipment downtime and material changeovers.

Formulated with the company’s Ultra-Red technology, the adhesive fluoresces bright red under low-intensity "black" light (365 nm), contrasting well on plastics that naturally fluoresce blue, and it facilitates more accurate visual inspection of the bond-line area. It also produces a spectral signature that can be used by manufacturers for product authentication.

The adhesive contains no nonreactive solvents and is compatible with gamma, EtO and E-beam sterilization.
