SANTA ROSA, Calif., May 16, 2013 — Cal Sensors’ optical detectors can sense muzzle flash from more than 100 m, offering faster response and fewer false targets. Operating at the speed of light, they provide an almost instantaneous response to a gunfire event, offering real-time detection capabilities and giving targets the critical seconds needed to duck and apply countermeasures. Unlike acoustic detectors, they do not detect other loud noises such as car backfires, and they can be designed to reject any optical signals outside the desired detection bandwidth. They also are not susceptible to the reverberation of sound off of structures in the vicinity of gunfire. The detectors provide suitable sensitivity over wavelengths from 1 to 5.5 μm. Detector configurations include single element, multichannel and arrays. Detector technologies include features such as optional spectral filters, optical condensers, thermoelectric coolers, temperature sensors and integrated drive electronics. Applications include imaging, spectroscopy, medical, automotive emissions, gas and moisture analysis, temperature measurement, flame detection and combustion control.
