GREENVILLE, Del., Oct. 6, 2013 — Galil Motion Control has added the DMC-30016 to its Pocket Motion controller series. The device combines a single-axis motion controller with a 1.4-A-per-phase stepper drive in a compact unit.

It offers higher performance, better power efficiency and higher speed than its predecessors, and contains a 30-V stepper amplifier that drives a two-phase bipolar stepper motor in full-step, half-step, ¼ step or 1/16 step. It is user-configurable from 0.5 to 1.4 A per phase in 10-mA increments at 12 to 30 V of direct current.

The controller measures 3.9 × 5 × 1.5 in., and no external heat sink is required. The 125-μs servo loop update time is twice as fast, and the 15-MHz encoder frequency and 3-MHz stepper pulse output are 25 percent faster.

Other features include proportional integral derivative compensation with velocity and acceleration feed-forward, nonvolatile memory for user programs, multitasking for simultaneously running up to four programs, and I/O processing for synchronizing motion with external events.
