PHOTONIS Digital Imaging introduces a new Gigabit Ethernet Color Low Light camera optimized for low-light conditions. The new camera model, NOCTURN GV-C, provides full frame color images at light levels < 4e- read noise and GigE Vision® connectivity. The NOCTURN family of low light cameras provides day-through-night imaging, capturing images in extreme lighting conditions from daylight through quarter-moon darkness. The cameras are ideal for surveillance, security, man-portable and mobile applications where low power and small size is essential. The NOCTURN cameras are proven solutions to improve detection, recognition and identification ranges up to 35% in quarter moon lighting conditions over comparative technologies, while still providing full frame rate video in day through nighttime lighting conditions and without supplemental technologies. The NOCTURN GV-C features a proprietary SMART pixel encoding which is specifically designed for low power consumption. The unit also can switch to monochrome imaging in extremely low light conditions (~100mlx) to enhance scene understanding and reduce color noise. The NOCTURN color camera products, including the new GV-C model, are powered by the Kameleon CMOS imaging sensor, a solid-state sensor that offers less than 4e- read noise, with SXGA (1280x1024) resolution at frame rates up to 60 Hz. The Kameleon sensor provides large 9.72µm pixels with microlenses for optimum quantum efficiency in excess of 60%.
