EDISON, N.J., Feb. 25, 2015 — The Synapse EM from Horiba Scientific is a deep-cooled electron-multiplying CCD (EMCCD) scientific camera for low-light and ultrafast spectroscopy experiments. It is available in front- and back-illuminated versions for optimal quantum efficiency. It has a sensor format of 1600 × 200 or 1600 × 400, a pixel size of 16 μm and a maximum frame rate >1600 spectra per s. The camera comes with a standard dual-readout mode that allows users to switch automatically between EMCCD mode for low-light measurements and conventional CCD mode for standard spectroscopy. Sensor options include QExtra technology, a multilayer antireflection coating designed to improve quantum efficiency of back-illuminated sensors over a broad spectral range while suppressing undesirable etaloning effects. Applications include Raman, surface-enhanced and tip-enhanced Raman (SERS/TERS), multitrack, transient and single-molecule spectroscopy.
