OBERKOCHEN, Germany, May 6, 2015 — The O-Select optical measurement system from Carl Zeiss IMT GmbH is suited for the quick and reproducible characterization of 2-D parts in the quality assurance process. The system is automated during the generation of measuring programs and the measurement itself. It compares existing programs with the current workpiece and then opens the right program. It detects the location of the part; manual alignment is not required. Measurement of the workpiece begins with the press of a button. The camera captures the contours, analyzes the characteristics and documents them in Zeiss PiWeb quality data management software. The system selects the right distance of the camera to the object, focuses the workpiece edges and maximizes contrast. The measuring machine calculates the illumination intensity that can vary from workpiece to workpiece. The system is particularly suited for checking the dimensional accuracy of distances, radii or angles. Application examples include punched and formed parts and injection-molded and laser-cut workpieces in the automotive, electronics and plastics industries.
