The LV digital laser optic sensor from Keyence Corp. of America employs dual light-receiving elements on either side of the transmitter lens and a technique using definite-reflective optics. It detects the curved or beveled edges of semiconductor wafers in cassettes to determine the presence or absence of wafers even if they are coated with titanium nitride. The beam spot is converged into a narrow line to detect limited areas in materials such as thin metal, plastic or semiconductor wafers. The sensor produces readings even with inclined targets or those with shiny or black surfaces.
