NTT Electronics Corp. has unveiled an all-in-one module that can be integrated with variable optical attenuators (VOAs) and arrayed-waveguide gratings (AWGs). The module is suitable for building and stabilizing WDM systems that enable optical signals of varied wavelengths to be bundled and transmitted over a single optical fiber. Specifications such as number of channels, channel spacing and wavelength range are determined by the selection of the appropriate VOA and AWG. Each wavelength channel between these devices is connected via eight-fiber ribbon cables. The digital interface and temperature control can be mounted on the board, eliminating the need for fiber connections.
