Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology News
Megagrant Fuels Nanophotonics Research at MIPT Center for Photonics and 2D Materials
MOSCOW, Dec. 10, 2020 — The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology’s Center for Photonics and 2D Materials was among the winners of eight megagrants authorized by the government of the Russian Federation. The funding will go toward research on advanced nanophotonics in the areas of quantum materials and artificial intelligence. With the funding, MIPT will establish a new laboratory at the center. “Under that project, the lab will pursue several lines of research into the physics of quantum
Physicists Develop Quantum-Inspired Optical Sensor
MOSCOW, June 12, 2020 — Researchers from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), joined by a colleague from Argonne National Laboratory, have implemented an advanced quantum algorithm for measuring physical quantities using simple optical tools. The...
Recently Discovered Protein Family Could Find Role in Optogenetics
MOSCOW, April 7, 2020 — Researchers from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), working with colleagues in Spain, France, and Germany, have determined and analyzed the high-resolution structure of a protein from the recently discovered heliorhodopsin...
Approach Uses Artificial Intelligence to Predict Quantum Advantage
MOSCOW, Feb. 10, 2020 — Researchers from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), Valiev Institute of Physics and Technology, and ITMO University created a neural network that learned to predict the behavior of a quantum system by “looking” at its...
Open-Source Solution Could Lower Cost of Optical Cardiography
DOLGOPRUDNY, Russia, and WASHINGTON, D.C., March 28, 2019 — An open-source solution for multiparametric optical mapping of the heart’s electrical activity, developed by an international research team, could further understanding of the mechanisms underlying cardiac arrhythmias. The 3D models of the...
Silicon Nanoantennas Turn Light Around
MOSCOW, Nov. 22, 2016 — Light is rather hard to control, as photons have neither mass nor electric charge. Devices such as nanoantennas can control the propagation of electromagnetic waves, but only to a certain degree. A proposed nonlinear optical nanoantenna that can be...
Attosecond Observations Probe Chemical Reactions
ZURICH, Oct. 23, 2015 — Laser pulses have been used to track the movements of electrons in molecules with a time resolution of 100 attoseconds — and even to alter their behavior. Demonstrated by researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich)...
