Mobile-Based Image Reconstruction App Can Be Used at Point of Care
AMES, Iowa, May 2, 2023 — A mobile phone application for photoacoustic tomography (PAT) image reconstruction has demonstrated performance comparable to that of applications implemented on laptop computers and workstations. The first-of-its-kind application was developed by a team from Iowa State University, Nanyang Technological University, and the Stanford University School of Medicine. The mobile-platform-based application will enable low-resource and other clinical settings to reconstruct PAT images at the
3D Mapping of Finger Veins Points to Uncrackable Security
BUFFALO, N.Y., Sept. 30, 2020 — An optical biometric authentication tool using photoacoustic tomography to map a subject’s finger veins in 3D could provide a nearly uncrackable security method. Researchers at SUNY Buffalo developed the biometric authentication technique....
‘Nanojuice’ Aids Intestinal Imaging
BUFFALO, N.Y., July 8, 2014 — A cocktail of fluorescent dyes and nanoparticles could aid in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal ailments. Researchers at the University at Buffalo say their “nanojuice” enables detailed images of the small intestines in mice when used in...
Photoacoustic Imaging Moves into Clinic
ST. LOUIS, March 26, 2012 — Photoacoustic tomography, which combines the best qualities of ultrasound and light absorption, can now provide clinicians with multicontrast images of biological tissue several inches below the skin’s surface.
Inner Space Explored with Outer Space Tools
ST. LOUIS, Dec. 14, 2010 — A breakthrough in imaging technology using a combination of light and sound will allow health care providers to see microscopic details inside the body. Access to this level of detail potentially eliminates the need for some invasive biopsies, but...
Applications: Harnessing Light and Sound for Staging of Breast Cancer
Jan 1, 2009 — Only recently developed for imaging of tissue, photoacoustic tomography now is racing headlong toward clinical implementation. And one of the first areas of deployment – the “perfect niche clinical application,” said Lihong Wang, a researcher at...
One Laser Technology Will Amaze Even the Most Skeptical
Dec 2, 2008 — Blood samples are still the best way to detect harmful cells in the bloodstream, yet a blood sample represents only a fraction of the total blood in the human body. So harmful cells may be circulating in the bloodstream even if none are present in a...
