Q-switch News
Magneto-Optical Q-Switched Laser Generates Unpolarized Light
TOYOHASHI, Japan, Feb. 1, 2018 — By using a technique — called q-switching — that utilizes short but high-powered pulse outputs, a laser one-tenth of the size of an American penny produced a beam that is 10 times more powerful than previously reported with larger lasers. The q-switch was performed in a Nd:YAG laser cavity. A research team from Toyohashi University of Technology fabricated the quasi-continuous-wave (QCW) diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser cavity, which was shortened to 10?mm in length and contained a RIG film and a pair...
Adding Fiber Pays Off for Industry
Jul 1, 2010 — For Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (ESI) of Portland, Ore., getting fiber into its diet has been one key to success. Among other things, the company makes a line of micromachining systems for the semiconductor, flat panel display, photovoltaic...
Cleveland Crystals: Small Firm with a Big Role in the Laser Industry
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ohio, Aug. 28, 2007 -- Cleveland Crystals Inc. is a small company that plays a very large role in the laser industry, thanks to its unparalleled ability to grow high-quality crystals for laser, electro-optics and laser fusion applications. Crystals are fascinating...
Wedged Etalon Simplifies Wavelength Tuning of Miniature Laser
Sep 1, 2006 — Solid-state microchip lasers, in which all the resonator elements — gain medium, resonator mirrors and, sometimes, Q-switch and/or frequency doubler — are bonded together in a monolithic block, have proved to be robust and commercially successful....
Passive Stabilization Technique Tames Unruly Mode-Locked Laser
Sep 1, 2004 — There is a delicate balance between too much saturable absorption and too little when passively mode-locking a laser. Too little absorption yields unstable mode-locking or, worse, fails to mode- lock the laser at all. Too much causes the laser to...
