Optoacoustic Probe Spots Harmful Plaque Within Blood Vessels
MOSCOW, Dec. 10, 2021 — Researchers at Skoltech are a step closer to a working optoacoustic endoscopic probe — a device that could slip inside a blood vessel and analyze atherosclerotic plaques by shining laser light on them and making them vibrate like a speaker membrane. This effect would cause the plaques to betray their chemical composition with an ultrasound signature. The method, if it can be achieved, would prove useful for robotic microsurgeries and medical diagnostic procedures. Unlike a CT scan,
Researchers Miniaturize Imaging Device Using 3D Microprinted Camera Lens
ADELAIDE, Australia, Aug. 3, 2020 — Researchers from the University of Adelaide and the University of Stuttgart have developed an ultrathin endoscope small enough to scan images from inside the blood vessels of mice. In humans, the scope will help scientists better understand causes...
Melanoma Blood Vessel Changes Detected with OCT Imaging
BERLIN, March 25, 2019 — An international team of researchers has proven that dynamic optical coherence tomography (D-OCT) imaging of melanoma reveals changes to the blood vessels that correlate with the depth of its invasion, which could lead to a faster method of rapidly...
Laser Process Shows Promise for Skin Cancer Treatment
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 7, 2014 — The treatment of basal-cell carcinoma (BCC) with a new combination of lasers – pulsed dye and Nd:YAG – has yielded some good results, offering the potential for nonsurgical treatment.
3-D Photografting Grows Bio Tissue
VIENNA, Aug. 27, 2012 — Photografting, a new form of three-dimensional printing that uses lasers to precisely attach molecules at specific places in a material, could soon make it possible to grow biological tissue or to create microsensors.
